Frequently Asked Questions

What is the EU parcel fee introduced in July 2026?

From 1 July 2026, the EU applies a temporary €3 customs duty for each tariff classification in an e-commerce consignment valued at €150 or less and imported from outside the EU. This is in addition to VAT. The legal basis is Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382.

Was the €150 customs exemption abolished?

Yes. The EU abolished the previous €150 customs duty exemption for low-value goods effective 1 July 2026. Previously, parcels under €150 were exempt from customs duty, although VAT still applied. The temporary duty is now €3 for each tariff classification represented in the consignment.

Does Temu charge the EU customs fee?

The seller or importer is normally liable for the customs debt. IOSS concerns VAT and does not determine how the €3 duty is collected. Temu may pass import costs through at checkout depending on the order and fulfilment route, so verify its current breakdown and any carrier notice.

How long does the €3 fee last?

The €3 flat fee is a temporary measure valid from 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2028. From July 2028, the EU Customs Data Hub will be operational and standard tariff schedules will apply to e-commerce imports.

Does the fee apply to every item or every parcel?

Neither description is precise: the €3 is charged for each tariff classification represented in the consignment, not for each unit. The official examples are 5 identical T-shirts = €3, while 1 T-shirt plus 1 watch = €6. The seller or importer is normally liable; check whether the duty is passed through at checkout.

How do I use this as an import duty calculator?

Choose your EU country and enter your order value plus the number of tariff categories (different product types). The calculator estimates the €3 customs duty per category, adds import VAT at that country's rate, and shows the total. It is free and needs no signup.
